Autism Information and Family Support Service -

tt"Providing support when you need it"

What is the Autism Information and Family Support Service?

A lot of work goes on in the background to support parents and carers. The activities of the Autism Information and Family Support Service (AIS) are not as high profile as the support provided for people with Aspergers Syndrome through the youth clubs and outings of the Aspirations project, but they are just as important.

The parents and carers we support are not only those whose children are members of Aspirations, but also those with a wide spread of needs, whose child's disability can fall anywhere within the Autistic Spectrum of Disorders. In addition, we are increasingly being contacted by people in their twenties, thirties and even forties, who have only recently been diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome, and who are looking for advice and information to help them to come to terms with their diagnosis.

Support provided by the Autism Information Service has evolved over the years to meet its member's needs, and you can view some of the Autism Information and Family Support Service activities by clicking on the links at the left of the page.

These services are provided for parents and carers of people with autism living in the Greater Manchester Area, although we also provide information for parents and professionals from further afield. ASGMA feels strongly that if parents whose sons or daughters have autism are getting some emotional and practical support themselves, they can go on to help their child more effectively.
